WORLD VETERINARY DAY (WVD) COMMUNITY SERVICE FACULTY OF VETERINARY MEDICINE UDAYANA UNIVERSITY 2023
On Sunday, April 16 2023, the Student Executive Board (BEM) of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FVM) Udayana University (UNUD) held a community service with the theme "Malignant Catarrhal Fever (MCF): Attacking Bali Cows. This activity was held in Pempatan Village, Rendang District, Karangasem. This activity starts at 10.00 WITA until finished.
This service activity begins with outreach to the community about the Malignant Catarrhal Fever (MCV) virus. The socialization activity was guided by Grace Febiola Sinambela as the master of ceremony, followed by a prayer by Eka. The event continued with remarks and a report from the head of the committee by Janice Stevenson Mustaine, then continued with remarks from the Deputy Chairperson of BEM (Lefira), as well as remarks from the Lecturer of FVM UNUD (drh. Tri Komala Sari, M.S., Ph.D), remarks from Mr. Head of Pempatan Village, and Karangasem Agriculture and Food Service.
"Thank you to the students who have taken the initiative to do community service and go directly to the field together and discuss Malignant Catarrhal Fever (MCV) which is now in Pempatan Village, and also thanks to the breeders who have taken the time to attend at the socialization this time," said drh. Tri Komala Sari, M.S., Ph.D in his speech.
"I hope today's outreach activities can be a good first step for the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, as well as for the Karangasem Service to work together in the next community service which can be held together again. We also hope that with this socialization activity, students, villages, and breeders can work together to prevent Malignant Catarrhal Fever (MCV) from spreading in Bali," said Lefira as Deputy Head of BEM FVM 2023. This service activity is the second series of activities in commemoration of World Veterinary Day (WVD). This activity aims to educate the public about Malignant Catarrhal Fever (MCV), starting from the causes of Malignant Catarrhal Fever (MCV) and also ways to prevent it, so that later Malignant Catarrhal Fever (MCV) does not spread widely in Bali.
In this socialization, there was one speaker, namely Tri Komala Sari, M.S., Ph.D. This socialization began with presentation of material on Malignant Catarrhal Fever (MCV), and continued with a discussion session. During the discussion session, the breeders were very active in asking questions about Malignant Catarrhal Fever (MCV). After the discussion session ended, it was continued with a documentation and closing session.
The service activity was continued by spraying disinfectant into the resident's cages. The committee was divided into 4 areas, each carrying a sprayer filled with disinfectant. Disinfectant spraying is done outside the cage and around the cage. In this activity not only spraying was carried out, but also direct socialization to the breeders by visiting the ranchers' stables.
Messages and impressions from the breeders, namely "This service activity is very beneficial for breeders, because farmers who initially did not know what causes Malignant Catarrhal Fever (MCV) and how to prevent it, now know what steps to take to prevent it." to prevent Malignant Catarrhal Fever (MCV)," said one of the breeders.
