The Udayana University Veterinary Medicine Study Program, which was founded in 1983, has a vision that describes the desires, dreams and future aspirations of its founders. In general, the core value desired is for this institution to become a quality higher education institution, having the ability to develop science and technology and innovation that can support the nation's competitiveness, especially in the field of veterinary science. The formulation of the Vision, Mission, Goals and Targets of the Veterinary Medicine Study Program is included in the Strategic Plan (Renstra) of the Veterinary Medicine Study Program at Udayana University.
Human resources with the best talents are highly desired to advance the nation's competitiveness. The development of a knowledge-based economy and the Industrial Revolution 4.0 place a high value on technical expertise, innovation and new sources of knowledge. The Veterinary Medicine Study Program at Udayana University, apart from designing and developing healthy education, is also oriented towards the development of information technology (IT) in welcoming the 4.0 era. In this way, it is hoped that the study program will be able to contribute to the nation's competitiveness and improve the quality, relevance and efficiency of education to face challenges in line with changes in global life.
Apart from that, education at the Veterinary Medicine Study Program at Udayana University also prioritizes excellence. These advantages include, among others, excellence in research that is recognized by the academic community through national and international publications; excellence in teaching staff (professors) who are qualified in their fields; excellence in academic freedom and intellectual excitement; excellence in management and governance; excellence in facilities for academic activities, such as a complete library, state-of-the-art laboratories; and adequate funding to support the teaching and learning process, research and community service. Another advantage that also needs to be conveyed is national and international cooperation, both in educational programs, research and community service.
In order to fulfill the wishes of the Udayana University Veterinary Medicine Study Program to provide quality education so that its graduates are able to compete, a Strategic Plan for the 2015-2019 Veterinary Medicine Study Program at Udayana University was created. As mandated in Law no. 20 of 2003 concerning the National Education System and Law no. 12 of 2012 concerning Higher Education, the Strategic Plan for the Veterinary Medicine Study Program at Udayana University was created in such a way with the aim of encouraging the upholding of holistic human development, as well as a civilized Indonesian society that remains imbued with the basic philosophy of the state, namely Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution.
The aim of the Strategic Plan is to strengthen the direction of educational development by emphasizing efforts to prepare graduates who are able to compete, have extensive knowledge, are skilled at using their knowledge in the world of work, behave and act in accordance with the ethics and norms that apply in society. Apart from having knowledge and technology in their field, graduates are expected to be able to work independently, collaborate in teams, think logically, analytically, and be able to communicate effectively. In order to participate in developing Udayana University into a World Class University in 2021, the Udayana University Veterinary Medicine Study Program as part of Udayana University must strengthen and maintain its accreditation which has reached A. Furthermore, it is encouraged to obtain international recognition (certification or accreditation), by continuing to good quality assurance.
