UNUD FVM Lecturers Participate in TOT of Frontline Technical Staff for Handling Livestock Disease Outbreaks in Yogyakarta

In order to overcome outbreaks of strategic animal diseases and zoonotic animal diseases, AFVMI (Association of Indonesian Veterinary Medicine Faculties) in collaboration with the Indonesia-Australia Red Meat Cattle Partnership (IARMCP) held training for prospective trainers or TOT (training of trainers) Professional Development for Animal Health Workers Frontline and veterinary students held for 3 days from Monday 4 September 2023 to Thursday 7 September 2023 at Daffam Signature Hotel, Kulon Progo Yogyakarta. The theme of this activity is Increasing the Capacity of Front Guard Technical Personnel for the prevention, mitigation and handling of livestock disease outbreaks in the cattle farming sector in Indonesia. The participants in this activity were 16 people consisting of representatives of 11 lecturers from each study program/faculty of veterinary medicine from each university that provides undergraduate veterinary medicine education and 5 veterinary medical personnel from 5 central and regional government institutions, including from the Department of Agriculture. Banten Livestock, Riau Province Livestock Service, Polwali Mandar Regency Agriculture and Food Service, Denpasar Veterinary Center and NTT Provincial Livestock Service. Udayana University's Faculty of Veterinary Medicine was represented by Drh. I wayan Sukernayasa, S.Kh., M.Sc.

The opening ceremony was attended directly by the chairman of AFVMI Prof. drh. Teguh Budi Pitodjo, MP, Ph.D, IARMCP Representative Petrus Widiantoro, chairman of the organizing committee Dr.drh. Widagdo Sri Nugroho, M.Sc, and director of LPPM Gajah Mada University Dr. Dr. Rustamaji., M. Kes. Apart from that, the Director General of Animal Health, Dr. Drh, was also present online. Dr. drh. Nuryani Zainuddin,. M.Sc. The event was opened directly by the director of LPPM Gajah Mada University, Dr. dr.Rustamaji., M.Kes on Monday 4 September 2023 at 20:00 WIB. After the opening event there was also a material presentation by Prof. Dr. Drh Bambang Sumiarto, SU, MSc regarding the basics of epidemiology.

Apart from providing material presentations, discussions and creating assignments, this training activity also included direct training in the field to carry out direct investigations in areas affected by the outbreak. Direct field investigation activities were carried out on Tuesday in Patihombo Hamlet/Village, Purwosari Village, Kapenewon/Girimulyo District, Kulon Progo Regency, Yogyakarta using interview and sampling techniques. In this activity, it was simulated that the area was experiencing an anthrax outbreak. After obtaining the data in the field, it is then made into a report on animal disease outbreaks. Next, the activities are filled with material presentations, discussions and assignments. 


According to Drh. Susilo Budi Sulistyo, who is the facilitator of this activity, said that the participants who take part in this activity will become facilitators in developing professional frontline animal health workers and veterinary students for the prevention, mitigation and handling of livestock disease outbreaks. The target participant for all of Indonesia is 680 people veterinary medicine and 480 veterinary students. In line with what was conveyed by the facilitator, according to participant drh. I wayan Sukernayasa, S.KH., M.Si said that the participants must also prepare activities in their respective regions. "Later these participants will make proposals for plans for training activities that will be carried out in each region. "For the Bali area, we will hold 2 activities each for veterinary medical personnel (veterinarians) from each government agency and 1 activity for FVM Udayana veterinary students, with a total of 60 veterinary medical personnel and 30 students participating." said the lecturer in the field of veterinary reproduction.
