Supporting Sedang Village as Tourism Village, FVM Unud held Dermatitis Management and Rabies Control in Sedang Village.

Thursday (25/08), the Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Prof. Dr. dr. I Nyoman Suartha, M.Si, officially opened the Udayana Program for the Community (PUMA) which took place in Sedang Village, Abiansemal District, Badung Regency, Bali. This activity took place precisely at the Gatot Kaca Kindergarten. This program is a form of community service by the academic community of Udayana University as a manifestation of the roles and responsibilities of higher education institutions in order to participate in increasing the intelligence of the nation.

The Udayana Program for the Community takes a theme, "Treatment of Dermatitis and Rabies Control through Dog Population Control in Sedang Village in an Effort to Support Sedang Village as a Tourism Village." This program is carried out with various forms of activities including rabies education, population control, treatment of dermatitis using herbs, sterilization, castration, and rabies vaccination for pets. In carrying out these series of activities, Udayana University collaborated with some related institutions, such as the Sheva Buana Foundation, Anom Vet, and Forum Dokter Hewan Peduli.

Before starting the series of activities, the koas students were divided into four banjars, Banjar Aseman, Banjar Sedang, Banjar Sigaran, and Banjar Kukipan. There were a group placed in the Gatot Kaca Kindergarten where sterilization, castration, and vaccination activities take place. Local residents came and brought their own pets. This distribution aims to facilitate data collection and vaccination of animals owned by the community. In addition, the signing of a Letter of Implementation of Agreement between the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Udayana University and the Department of Agriculture and Food of Badung Regency as evidence of the implementation of the Inter-Institutional Cooperation Program.

An education program about rabies was provided by the FVM  Unud Lecturer to Sedang Village Kindergarten children. This is especially important for children who have pets and live in areas where there is a high risk of being bitten by stray dogs since rabies is more susceptible to infect children severely than adults. With this program, it is hoped that children will be more alert and careful when meeting or playing with animals that have the potential to be infected with rabies, such as dogs and cats.

The Udayana Program for the Community has received a lot of positive responses from the local community. This is indicated by the number of people who participate in a series of activities carried out. Since the morning before the activity was even started, the locals have filled the venue with their pets. The activity took place in one place at the Gatot Kaca Kindergarten which has a large area as a location for outreach to the community.

The purpose of the residents who came is to get health services for their pets. Most people came to get rabies vaccine shots and to sterilize or castrate their pets. This vaccination was given by the students of the Udayana University Faculty of Veterinary Boarding School, who are already qualified in this field. In addition to being given vaccines, people are also given shampoo that is beneficial for their pets.

Sterilization and castration activities were handled by veterinarians who are members of the Forum Dokter Hewan Peduli and Anom Vet. This  sterilization and castration service aims to control the dog and cat population, which is currently widely circulated in the community. In addition, these activities can reduce aggressive behavior and reduce the risk of prostate disorders for pets.

With this outreach program, it is hoped that every community will get education on the importance of maintaining the population of their favorite animals and preventing rabies in animals in Sedang Village, Badung. Hopefully Sedang Village, Badung can become a tourist village that can be useful for its own people and visitors.
