PKT FKH Unud 2024: Building Experience and Awareness in Livestock Health
The Veterinary Holic Interest Group (Minpro Vetholic) of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Udayana University (FKH Unud), successfully organized the 2024 Livestock Health Services (PKT) program. This program is one of the annual programs of Minpro Vetholic, focusing on community service through livestock health initiatives.
With the theme "Advancing Together for Healthy Livestock: Maju Bersama untuk Kesehatan Ternak", this year’s PKT invited 13 delegates from the Veterinary Medicine Student Association of the Faculty of Health, Medicine, and Natural Sciences, Airlangga University (HMKH FIKKIA Unair), Swine and Ruminant Care Division, as well as the Large Livestock Veterinary Interest Group (Minpro Tebas) of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Wijaya Kusuma Surabaya University (FKH UWKS). Additionally, this year’s PKT successfully attracted 115 participants from FKH Unud.
The Livestock Health Service program consisted of two activity session. The first session, held on Saturday, November 30, 2024, focused on a training seminar. The first presentation was delivered by drh. I Wayan Wirata, S.K.H., M.Sc., titled "General Understanding of Medications, Barn Sanitation, Injection Techniques, and Livestock Restraints". The second presentation was given by drh. Gde Eka Parta Ariana, M.Si., titled "Field Situation Overview and Preparation for Veterinary Practice in the Field". At the end of the second session, the speakers demonstrated how to administer vitamin injection to cattle. Both material sessions were followed by discussions. The training seminar concluded with an explanation of the required items to bring and group assignments for the event’s main day.
The second session was the Main Event of the PKT, held on Sunday, December 1, 2024, in Antapan Village, Baturiti District, Tabanan Regency. The event was attended by the Head of the Livestock and Animal Health Division of the Tabanan Regency Agriculture Office, and the Head of Antapan Village. On this main day, participants were directly involved in providing livestock health services, including administering vitamin injections and oral deworming medications. The participants and delegates were divided into 10 groups, each assigned to a different cattle pen in 10 separate location. Every participants had the opportunity to administering vitamin injection and deworming medications if the cattle's condition allowed. Throughout the activity, participants were accompanied by students from the Veterinary Professional Program (PPDH) of FKH Unud and faculty mentors. The main day concluded with a discussion session involving the faculty mentors.
Overall, PKT 2024 program ran smoothly, Participants showed great enthusiasm in both activity sessions. Through the PKT activities, participants are expected to gain valuable experience and knowledge in community service, particularly in the field of livestock health, and to apply these skills within the community.
