Minpro Wildlife Rothschildi FVM UNUD held a National Seminar on Animal Conservation

On Saturday, May 27 2023 Interest in the Profession of Wildlife Rothschildi at Udayana University held a national seminar which took place directly at the Denpasar Youth and Sports Education Office which was attended by 102 participants with 58 participants from Udayana Faculty of Medicine students and 44 general participants from outside Udayana University which started at 08.30 WITA. The national seminar this time provided an opening in the form of the Sekar Jagad dance which was followed by an opening by the MC, reading a prayer, singing the Indonesia Raya song, and remarks from the chairman of the Rothschildi 2023 National Seminar committee, the head of the Rothschildi 2023 minpro, the head of the Student Executive Board (SEB) Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FVM) Udayana, the advisory lecturer represented by drh. Sri Kayati Widyastuti, M.Sc. and the Dean of FVM Udayana Prof. Dr. drh. I Nyoman Suartha, M.Si who also officially opened the 2023 Rothschildi National Seminar.



The national seminar this time carries the theme "Animal Conservation: Behind The Scenes" which has the aim of educating and broadening the horizons of the importance of public knowledge and awareness of wildlife conservation. As stated by the head of the committee, Steven Adrianto, "The 2023 Rothschildi National Seminar raises the theme Animal

 

Conservation: behind the scenes, where we want to discuss, explore, and find out what is really going on behind the scenes of wildlife conservation in Indonesia, so that I hope that through this seminar all participants will gain additional knowledge and have an overview of what wildlife conservation is and how it is systematic in Indonesia” and the dean of FVM Udayana also said in his remarks, “There are still very few veterinarians at the BKSDA, so there is a great opportunity for younger siblings to sister to get a job in the field in conservation.”

This event gave four speakers who are in the field of conservation which are complemented by discussion sessions, quizzes, submission of certificates, and documentation. The first material was given by Mr. I Wayan Gede Budiana from BKSDA who discussed the authority and duties of BKSDA in protecting, securing and quarantining animals. The second material was delivered by Mr. I Nengah Nuyana, S.Si. who provided a lot of information about the Bali Bird Park and the challenges faced such as animal procurement, facilities and infrastructure, product development, and the number of human resources.

After giving the second material, it was followed by an isbama session for the participants and the committee. After that, the third material was given by Ms. Femke den Haas and the fourth by drh. Deny Rahmadani who discussed the role of the Jakarta Animal Aid Network/JAAN institution in the field of wildlife conservation which has rehabilitation, rescue and release programs for animals. As well as discussing rescue, rehabilitation, release, monitoring of dolphins. "In caring for aquatic animals, you don't only care for the animals, but also care for the water." One of Deny's explanations in delivering his material.

The event was closed with a reading of the quiz winners and the most active participants who were entitled to prizes, and a documentation session with the committee and all participants of the 2023 Rothschildi National Seminar.


 

The Rothschildi National Seminar does not only give seminars, but there is a gathering that chelonia wildlife in Indonesia can participate in which is held at the Green Open Room of Udayana University and this event starts at 17.00 WITA which is attended by 40 chelonia from outside Bali which is filled with an introduction session, games, sharing, eating together, and documentation.

The activity continues on Sunday (28/05/23), namely a workshop that can be attended by veterinarians and veterinary students. The workshop was held at the Udayana Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Dean at 08.30 WITA which was attended by 62 participants and was dominated by veterinary students from outside Udayana University. This workshop was filled with the provision of material in advance by drh. Deny Rahmadani who discussed the basics of marine mammal health checks and workshop sessions which were divided into two. The first session is at 10.00-12.00 WITA and the second session is at 13.30-15.30 WITA. The event was closed with after each session the participants were distributed consumption and allowed to go home.

The 2023 Rothschildi National Seminar which was followed by the chelonia gathering and workshop activities has been running smoothly. It is hoped that the activities that have been carried out can provide new insights and knowledge regarding the role of veterinarians in wildlife conservation. It is also hoped that holding the chelonia gathering can strengthen ties between wildlife observers in Indonesia.
