Minpro Rothschildi FKH Unud Club Held Its First Aquatic Training Camp

The Wildlife Professional Interest Group (Minpro) Rothschildi of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Udayana University (FKH Unud), held its first-ever Aquatic Training Camp on Sunday-Monday, September 15-16, 2024. The camp took place at Umah Lumba Center for Formerly Captive Dolphins, a rehabilitation institution for dolphins and other wildlife animals, such as monkeys, crocodiles, and turtles. The event began with remarks from the Head of the 2024 Aquatic Training Camp Organizing Committee, Abigail Nathania Timihardja, the Founder of the Jaringan Satwa Indonesia-Jakarta Animal Aid Network (JSI-JAAN), Femke Den Haas, followed by the opening speech by the Head of Minpro Rothschildi FKH Unud, Muhammad Sofi Diza Pakom.

The first day featured lectures and workshops attended by 35 participants. The first session was an introduction to JSI-JAAN by Femke Den Haas, followed by a session on handling marine mammals and turtle identification. The day concluded with a workshop on creating darts for blowpipes.



The second day began with breakfast and snorkeling preparations by the participants and committee. They took a 40 minutes trip to the first snorkeling site to observe coral reefs. Snorkeling continued at a second location, where participants explored coral reefs by snorkeling around the boat. During this session, participants also had the opportunity to play around the boat and capture memorable moments.

 


Before returning to the Umah Lumba Center for Formerly Captive Dolphins, participants took a short break at Menjangan Island, where they took group photos. The event concluded with the presentation of a certificate to JSI-JAAN by the Head of Minpro Rothschildi.
