Tuesday, 7 January, 2025, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Udayana University (FKH Unud) received a visit from the Leadership of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Universitas Brawijaya (FKH UB). This visit is part of a comparative study to learn the best practices of other institutions to support the preparation of international accreditation by the Accreditation Agency for Degree Programs in Engineering, Informatics, Natural Sciences, and Mathematics (ASIIN), as well as the opening of the Master Study Program (S-2) FKH UB. The activity took place offline in the 3rd Floor Meeting Room, Dean of Faculty of Medicine Unud Building, Jimbaran Campus. The event was opened with remarks by the Vice Dean I of FKH Unud, Dr. drh. I Gusti Ngurah Sudisma, M.Si., and continued by the Dean of FKH UB, drh. Dyah Ayu Oktavianie A. P., M.Biotech.
The visit attended by the leadership of both faculties, aimed to serve as a platform for exchanging opinions, experiences, and ideas, as well as fostering camaraderie between the two faculties. FKH Unud was the first institution visited in the benchmarking series for the establishment of the Master’s Program (S-2) in Veterinary Biomedical Sciences, scheduled to commence in the odd semester of 2025/2026. According to the leadership of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Brawijaya University (FKH UB), FKH Unud was chosen because the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine has been accredited superior and has extraordinary achievements in the national and international arena.
During this visit, the leadership teams of both universities introduced themselves, followed by sessions of experience sharing and discussions on challenges they had encountered. FKH Unud shared its experiences in managing undergraduate (S-1), master’s (S-2), and doctoral (S-3) programs. Meanwhile, FKH UB discussed the management of the undergraduate program (S-1) and the Veterinary Professional Education Program (PPDH), as well as ongoing preparations for launching a master’s program (S-2). Additionally, the discussion involved program development, with FKH UB seeking input from FKH Unud regarding the establishment of the master’s program (S-2), aiming to facilitate the development process at their institution. This activity emphasized the importance of collaboration and knowledge exchange to enhance the quality of education in both faculties.
Both parties agreed that one of the main challenges in developing this program is identifying target students and providing scholarships for those wishing to pursue a master’s degree (S-2). To date, FKH Unud has relied solely on its bachelor’s degree (S-1) graduates as the target for its Master’s Program. The event continued with exchange of souvenirs, lunch, and a group photo session.
Overall, this activity went smoothly which can be seen from the enthusiasm of both parties. After this visit, FKH UB hopes to visit other universities that have opened a master's study program (S-2) in veterinary medicine and can support the preparation for the opening of the Master's Study Program (S-2) at FKH UB more thoroughly.
