Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Udayana University Holds Community Service in Lombok, Increases Public Knowledge and Balinese Cattle Health
In order to celebrate the 27th Anniversary of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and the 41st Veterinary Family Council (BKKH), the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Udayana University held a community service activity on Friday, November 1, 2024, located in Jembatan Kembar Village, Lembar District, West Lombok Regency. In carrying out this activity, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Udayana University collaborated with the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Mandalika Education University.
This activity was attended by academics from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Udayana University and the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Mandalika Education University, representatives from the Agriculture Service of West Lombok Regency, the Head of Jembatan Kembar Village, and the Embung Pupuh livestock group.
The series of activities consisted of remarks from the Head of Jembatan Kembar Village, the Head of the Agriculture Service of West Lombok Regency represented by ...., and the Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Udayana University. The activity was continued with the delivery of material by Dr. drh. I Gusti Ngurah Bagus Tri Laksana, M.Kes, discussions with the community, and livestock health services.
The purpose of this activity is to improve the welfare of farmers through the delivery of counseling materials on the reproductive cycle and disorders in Balinese cattle and how to handle them. Livestock health services in the form of providing vitamins and deworming drugs aim to increase productivity and as an effort to prevent worm infections in Balinese cattle.
The head of Jembatan Kembar village, Amirullah, appreciated the community service activities organized by the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University because through this activity, community knowledge about cattle reproduction has increased and improved the health of cattle raised by the Embun Pupuh livestock group.
"I really appreciate this community service activity. This community service activity is very comprehensive. We not only gain new knowledge about livestock reproduction which of course will affect the productivity of our livestock, but we also get direct health services for the livestock being raised. This of course helps in maintaining the health of the cattle belonging to the group members." Said Amirullah. Friday (11/01/2024).
In line with the statement of the village head of Jembatan Kembar, the head of the Embung Pupuh livestock group, Mr. Misdah, thanked the parties involved in this community service activity because through the extension activities regarding livestock reproduction, the community became more aware of the optimal time to carry out artificial insemination (AI) on the cattle they raise so that the success of pregnancy increases.
The community was very enthusiastic in the discussion session which discussed the problem of Balinese cattle reproduction, especially regarding artificial insemination (AI) and the problems of cattle reproduction that are often faced by farmers.
At the end of the activity, assistance was handed over in the form of vitamins and deworming drugs from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Udayana University to the Embung Pupuh livestock group. With this activity, it is hoped that the community will implement the material that has been given regarding reproductive disorders in Balinese cattle to realize increased production.
