Education on Etawa Goat Milk from Theory to Practice, Minpro Vetholic FKH Unud Holds Public Lecture and Workshop for WMD 2025
In commemoration of World Milk Day (WMD) 2025, the Professional Interest Group Veterinary Holic (Minpro Vetholic) organized a series of educational events, including a public lecture (Kulum) and a workshop. Under the overarching theme “From Lecture to Farm: Let’s Get to Know Etawa Milk”, this initiative aimed to deepen participants' understanding of Etawa goat milk production, benefits, and business opportunities.
The WMD 2025 Public Lecture was successfully held online via Zoom Meeting on Saturday, May 31, 2025, with the theme “Goat Milk Journey: Theory, Practice, and Benefits”. The event was officially opened by Minpro Vetholic’s advisor, Drh. I Made Merdana, M.P., and attended by representatives including the Vice Chair of the Student Executive Board (BEM), the Head of Student Resources Division, the Secretary of the Student Representative Council, activity supervisors, the Editor-in-Chief and Managing Editor of the Student Press Institution Suara Satwa, the Chair and Vice Chair of Minpro Vetholic, the Head of Talents and Professional Interest Groups at FKH Unud, as well as 137 participants from Udayana University (Unud), Wijaya Kusuma University Surabaya, Mahasaraswati University Denpasar, Bogor Agricultural International Institute, Indonesia Institute of Business and Technology (INSTIKI), Faculty of Health, Medicine, and Natural Sciences (FIKKIA) at Airlangga University, National Education University, and general participants outside academic institutions.
Divided into two sessions, the WMD 2025 Public Lecture featured two expert speakers in their respective fields. The first session, led by Drh. Romy Muhammad Dary Mufa, S.K.H., M.Si., covered “The Benefits of Milk and the Role of Veterinarians in Etawa Milk Production Quality”, highlighting the superiority of Etawa goat milk, which contains high-quality protein, easily digestible short-chain fatty acids, and more calcium than cow’s milk. He emphasized the vital role of veterinarians in maintaining production quality through livestock health management, disease control, specialized lactation-phase feeding, and strict milking biosecurity to ensure food safety. The session also included a quiz with prizes based on the first presentation. The second session, with the theme “Etawa Goat Milk Production and Its Business Opportunities”, was delivered by Drh. Amung Logam Saputro, S.K.H., M.Si., focusing on production techniques such as Etawa goat farming, milking management, and milk processing, as well as business opportunities, including market analysis, marketing strategies, and innovative Etawa milk-based products.
The public lecture served as a foundation of knowledge for the second series of events: a hands-on farm visit and Etawa goat milking training workshop held on Sunday, June 1, 2025, at Raka Etawa Farm in Gianyar, Bali, under the theme “From Udder to Bottle: A Hands-On Goat Milking Workshop”. The event began with remarks from the WMD 2025 Committee Chair, Anak Agung Anindya Cahya Kirana, and was officially opened by the owner of Raka Etawa Farm, I Made Raka Yoganda Pura. Attendees included representatives from the Student Executive Board (BEM), WMD 2025 supervisors, the WMD 2025 Steering Committee, the Chair and Vice Chair of Minpro Vetholic FKH Unud, and 13 participants.
Before the practical session, participants listened to a presentation by Made Raka Yoganda Pura on Etawa goat milking techniques and biosecurity implementation. He explained, “Before milking, the goats must be fed first. Additionally, the milking process must be conducted under sterile conditions to maintain milk quality.” Participants were then divided into small groups for easier mobility to the Etawa goat pens. Upon entering the pens, each participant had to follow sterilization protocols, including wearing gloves, head caps, aprons, and undergoing disinfectant spraying. While waiting for their turn, groups engaged in fun games to stay entertained.
The event concluded with a sharing session with the owner of Raka Etawa Farm, who discussed challenges and opportunities in the Etawa goat milk business, followed by distribution of fresh Etawa goat milk, certificate handouts, and a group documentation session. The series of activities ran smoothly and enjoyably, with participants showing great enthusiasm, especially during the unique experience of milking and tasting Etawa goat milk.
Through this public lecture and workshop, the WMD 2025 Committee Chair hopes that all participants gained not only theoretical insights but also practical experience applicable for personal development and future business opportunities.
