COLLABORATIVE MEETING BETWEEN VETERINARY MEDICINE FACULTY OF UDAYANA UNIVERSITY AND FOOD AND AGRICULTURE ORGANISATION

Veterinary medicine faculty of Udayana University held a meeting with FAO (food and agriculture organization) online via the Zoom application on Friday, March 4 2023, 11:00 WITA to 13:00 WITA. This meeting is part of the collaboration between the veterinary medicine Faculty of  udayana university and FAO to carry out a post-vaccination survey for rabies in the Province of Bali in 2023. This activity was motivated by the many cases of dog bites and positive cases of rabies in Bali in early 2023. The number of participants who attended the This meeting consisted of 26 people consisting of 3 FAO representatives, 5 lecturers and leaders and 18 students of Veterinary medicine faculty of Udayana University.

On this occasion the Dean of Veterinary medicine faculty of Udayana University expressed his gratitude to FAO for their cooperation, especially in the field of Tri Dharma. Higher education can involve FAO. In the future, FAO can also teach at Veterinary medicine faculty of Udayana University. In his presentation Dr. Gozali as the FAO representative stated that this collaboration was a continuation of collaboration with other Veterinary medicine faculty such as Veterinary medicine faculty of Bogor Agriculture Institute, and Veterinary medicine faculty of Airlangga University. This survey activity will be carried out immediately and will also involve the provincial government of Bali and all Regency/city governments in Bali. Due to an increase in the number of rabies cases in February 2023, a formal meeting was also held to see the government's response and it was agreed that there should be concrete action in the form of vaccination in high-risk areas. Apart from that, an memorandum of understanding will also be discussed in collaboration with the Agriculture Service Office of Bali Province. The time for discussing the memorandum of understanding will be determined later. Vaccination activities are carried out on a village basic. Vaccination is carried out in phases, phase 1 and phase 2 are prioritized in high-risk villages. A total of 161 villages were the main targets of this vaccination activity. The post-vaccination survey activity also aims to see the number of dog populations in Bali.

 


This post-vaccination survey activity requires support from Veterinary medicine faculty of udayana university. In this case, Veterinary medicine faculty of udayana university deployed students to survey 60 villages. It takes 10 students to survey the 60 villages. The technique used in this survey is capture by capture, namely counting dogs that have been vaccinated. Vaccinated dogs are marked by wearing a collar. Then calculate the vaccination coverage in the area. The survey results are reported to the coordinator. The duration of this activity is estimated to last for 1 week.

 


In addition to collaboration in the form of post-vaccination rabies survey activities in Bali in 2023 there will also be international publication collaboration between Veterinary medicine faculty of udayana university and FAO. As the activity team leader for Veterinary medicine faculty of udayana university is drh. Kadek Karang Agustina, MP and representatives from FAO for this activity were Dr. Fakhri. While waiting for the signing of the memorandum of understanding and Cooperation agreement, mini training activities will be held. In addition, the Dean of Veterinary medicine faculty of udayana university also suggested that the preparation of Cooperation agreement and memorandum of understanding be coordinated with WD3 and the technical details should be drawn up. He also asked the Team Leader drh Kadek Karang Agustina, MP to determine a team so they could work immediately. As for international publications, they should coordinate with drh. Tri Komalasari, MS, Ph.D and drh. Made Kardena, MVS, Ph.D to see collaboration in the form of publications. On this occasion the Deputy Dean for academic and planning Dr. drh. I Gst Ngurah Sudisma, M.Si stated that this activity could be synergized with the Independent Learning  Independent Campus (MBKM) activities. Likewise with the Deputy Dean for Student Affairs and Cooperation Dr. drh. I wayan Sudira, M.Si so that the memorandum of understanding, Cooperation agreement and  Implemetation of arrangement (IoA) activities can continue.
