Came Back, Student Press Organization Suara Satwa Holds New Student Journalism Training 2024

The 2024 New Student Journalism Training (PJMB) was again held by the Suara Satwa Student Press Organization (LPM SS) of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Udayana University (FKH Unud) on Sunday, September 1st, 2024 at the Nusantara Room, Udayana University’s Agrocomplex Building, Sudirman Campus. This activity is one of the mandatory activities of FKH Unud as a requirement for student graduation. This year, PJMB activities were attended by 181 participants, consisting of 173 new students, and 8 older students.

In her speech, the Chairperson of the PJMB 2024 Committee, Cecilia Erika Kusuma Wardhani, said that this activity aims to make new students familiar with journalism and hone their skills with writing and videography. The activity with the theme "Pen and Camera: Recording Moments, Telling Stories" was then officially opened by the Vice Dean III of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Udayana University, Dr. drh. I Wayan Sudira, M.Si.

In line with the theme and purpose, PJMB 2024 presented two great speakers with interesting material. The first material entitled "Eroding the Stigma about Journalism among Students" by Ni Luh Dian Suryatini succeeded in attracting the attention of all participants with a relaxed but still meaningful material. She often interacted with participants to keep the atmosphere lively. Not inferior to the first material, the second is "Magic Adventure: Exploring the World with a Camera" presented by A. A. Ngurah Bagus Kesuma Yudha again built the enthusiasm of the participants through the jokes he often inserted during the delivery of the material. Not only that, he was also able to divert the participants' attention when there were problems with the PowerPoint displayed. In fact, each discussion session was greeted with dozens of participants who wanted to ask questions related to the material presented.

In addition to the presentation of material, PJMB 2024 was also filled with mading (wall magazine) making and presentation of works. Each cluster was directed to the place where the mading was made and given 40 minutes to make it. The presentation of the mading began after the showing of the teaser video and the appearance of the jargon that had been made by each cluster. The work was then judged by three experienced judges, namely one member of the Layouter Division, the Editor-in-Chief, and an alumnus of LPM Suara Satwa.

"I was quite impressed because at first I thought we were just presenting as usual, but apparently our mading was also assessed by several judges and immediately given criticism and suggestions so that in the future we can make better mading." said Ni Kadek Nilla Dwi Cahyani, one of the PJMB 2024 participants. After presenting their work, the Nusantara Room was made so crowded when announcing the champions of each category, namely the mading assignment category, video teaser, article, favorite cluster, and best cluster using the awarding concept which added to the festive impression. Through this activity, participants are expected to improve their skills in writing, communicating, and speaking more innovatively and creatively through writing and videography.
