World Ocean Day Minpro Turtle Guard FKH Unud: Protect Hatchlings for Better Marine Life!
In commemoration of World Ocean Day, the Professional Interest (Minpro) Turtle Guard of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FKH) Udayana University organized a World Ocean Day event themed "Guardians of The Sea: Protecting Hatchlings for a Brighter Ocean". The event took place on Sunday, June 16, 2024, at the Turtle Conservation and Education Center (TCEC) and Biaung Beach, East Denpasar. The event was officially opened by the Minpro Turtle Guard FKH Unud Advisor, drh. Ida Bagus Windia Adnyana, Ph.D., and was attended by 45 participants from FKH Udayana University and general participants from Warmadewa University.
This activity was divided into two main session. The first session featured by presentation and discussion by TCEC staff, Mr. I Wayan Sudarmaja, held directly live at Turtle Conservation and Education Center. Mr. Sudarmaja presented a lecture titled "Turtle: The Balancers of the Marine Ecosystem", which covered the types of turtles and their functions in maintaining the marine ecosystem. The presentation and discussion were engaging and informative, with participants actively asking questions to the speaker.
On the second agenda, the activity continued with the release of 200 hatchlings into the sea at Biaung Beach, East Denpasar. This activity is symbolic of the real action of hatchling conservation. Aligned with the event’s theme, the activity aimed to raise public awareness about the significant of preserving the marine environment and motivated individuals to protect hatchlings as a crucial part of maintaining the balance of the marine ecosystem.
Through the celebration of World Ocean Day, we can be more aware of the importance of safeguarding the cleanliness of our ocean and protecting the marine life and their habitats to ensure the continued well-being of our marine ecosystem .
