Veterinary Community Service in Celebration of World Veterinary Day 2026

The Student Executive Board (BEM) of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Udayana University (FKH Unud), once again held World Veterinary Day (WVD) 2026, consisting of three main series of event. This year, WVD carries the main theme "One Profession, One Compassion: Empowering Veterinary Inclusion," which means that despite working in different fields of service, all veterinarians are united by a shared sense of empathy and a commitment to creating an inclusive, open, and fair environment.

The first series of WVD 2026, namely Community Service, was held on Saturday, April 25, 2026, in Pecatu Village, South Kuta District, Badung Regency, Bali. This activity was attended by representatives of the Regent of Badung Regency, Head of the Department of Agriculture and Food Security of Bali Province, the Regional People's Representative Council (DPRD) of Badung Regency, Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Udayana University, Deputy Dean II of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Head of the Community and Village Empowerment Service of Badung Regency, Head of the Bali Animal, Fish, and Plant Quarantine Center, Head of the Denpasar Veterinary Center, Head of the South Kuta District, representatives of South Kuta Sector Police Chief (Kapolsek), representatives of the South Kuta Military Command (Koramil), Pecatu Village Head represented by the Village Secretary, Head of the Local Community Unit of Pecatu Village, 132 veterinarians from the Bali branch, 31 students of the Veterinary Professional Education Program (PPDH) of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, 40 student volunteers, as well as the people of Pecatu Village.

To expand the reach of services, this social service activity was carried out simultaneously at three post points as well as through door-to-door services. Post 1 is located in Pecatu Village community hall as the main post. The event began with an opening by the master of ceremony (MC), singing the song "Indonesia Raya," "The Indonesian Veterinary Association (PDHI) March," and "The FKH Unud March," a prayer, and remarks by the Dean of FKH Unud, Dr. drh. I Gusti Ngurah Sudisma, M.Sc., who said that this activity is one of the efforts to realize a rabies-free Bali in 2030 while building an independent village. The next speech was delivered by the Chairman of PDHI Bali branch, drh. I Dewa Made Anom, who explained that the selection of Pecatu Village was based on the history of the emergence of the first rabies case in 2008, so that efforts are needed to control the stray dog population and increase public awareness not to throw away animals in order to create a healthy and rabies-free tourism area, and continued with a speech from the Regent of Badung Regency represented by the Acting Head of the Department of Agriculture and Food Security of Badung Regency who also symbolically opened the event.

Before entering the main activity, aid funds were handed over to support the 2026 WVD activities by the Head of Pecatu Village in the amount of IDR 2,000,000.00 and by the Badung Regency DPRD in the amount of IDR 1,000,000.00. 

The activity continued with a talk show featuring representatives from PDHI, drh. I Wayan Budiarta, representatives from the Department of Agriculture and Food Security, drh. I Gusti Ngurah Narendra Putra, and Vice Dean II of FKH Unud, Prof. drh. I Made Kardena, MVS., Ph.D., and moderated by Dr. drh. Kadek Karang Agustina, MP, who educated the public about controlling the population of pets and preventing rabies in order to create a safe environment for tourists. Simultaneously, medical services in the form of sterilization and rabies vaccination were also carried out. At Post 1, the medical team successfully sterilized 12 male dogs, 16 female dogs, as well as three male cats and nine female cats.

Meanwhile, services at other locations also demonstrated high public enthusiasm. At Post 2 in Karang Boma, eight male dogs, seven female dogs, four male cats, and seven female cats were successfully sterilized. At Post 3 in Suluban, the medical team sterilized seven male dogs, 12 female dogs, and two male and two female cats.

A total of 85 dogs and 17 cats were vaccinated across the three available posts. To reach people that were unable to attend the event in person, the team also mobilized door to door and successfully vaccinated 1,279 dogs and 58 cats belonging to residents. After all medical service activities had been completed, all medical personnel, volunteers, and the committee gathered again at Post 1 to rest and eat together. The event was then enlivened by musical performances, the joged bumbung dance, and a performance by Vetro Voice. Overall, the event ran smoothly. Despite a power outage, the event continued until its conclusion, culminating in an official closing ceremony by the MC.

Not only that, WVD 2026 also held an offline socialization activity on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, located at Harapan Christian Private High School (SMAS) and attended by 120 participants who were SMAS Kristen Harapan students and teachers. This activity is the second series that aims to promote one of the WVD 2026 competitions, namely the Veterinary Popular Scientific Paper Competition (Kipvet) III. Not only that, this socialization also aims to introduce participants to FKH Unud more closely, such as facilities and various academic activities on campus.

The third series of events was the peak day, held on Sunday, May 3, 2026, at the Widya Sabha Auditorium, Udayana University, Jimbaran Campus. The event was attended by the Vice Dean II of FKH Unud, the Head of the Animal Health Division (Kabid Keswan) of the Badung Regency Agriculture and Food Service, Deputy Chairman of PDHI Bali branch, Village Head and Secretary of Pecatu Village, Supervising Lecturer, Jury Board, Chairman and Deputy Chairman of BEM FKH Unud, General Chairman of the Student Representative Council of FKH Unud, General Leader and Editor-in-Chief of the Suara Satwa Student Press Institute, Executive Board of the Indonesian Veterinary Medicine Students Association (PB IMAKAHI), Supervisory Board, Steering Committee, Representatives of the Student Government Student Executive Board of Udayana University, Representatives of Student Executive Board from five faculties at Udayana University, namely the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Faculty of Tourism, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, and Faculty of Agricultural Technology, as well as 300 participants who are students of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Udayana University and the general public.

The peak day began with an opening by the MC, followed by a prayer, and singing the song "Indonesia Raya", "Mars Udayana", and "Mars FKH Unud". The next agenda was the delivery of a report from the Chairman of the WVD 2026 Committee, Efrainne Sarah Manoppo, which was then followed by remarks from the Chairman of the BEM FKH Unud, I Gede Eka Dista Parandika, he expressed his hope that the series of activities carried out could bring a good impact and could help the parties involved. Followed by PB IMAKAHI, Benedicta Jeanet Widjaja, where she also expressed her hope that through this activity it would be able to introduce veterinary medicine more widely and become a platform for students to develop their interests and talents and encourage the creation of excellent veterinarians. The remarks were continued by the Deputy Chairman of the PDHI Bali Branch, drh. Dewa Made Hartanaya, S.K.H., he emphasized that the veterinary profession is united by concern and also committed to creating a professional environment that is inclusive, open, fair, and provides equal opportunities while growing together. The series of remarks was closed by the Vice Chairman of FKH Unud, Prof. drh. I Made Kardena, S.K.H., MVS., Ph.D., who also officially opened the event, stated in his remarks that the commemoration of World Veterinary Day is not merely a ceremony but also a crucial opportunity to reflect on the strategic role of veterinarians in maintaining the health of animals, humans, and the environment through the One Health approach. In line with the theme of the activity, "One Profession, One Compassion: Empowering Veterinary Inclusion", it was reminded that the veterinary profession has a great responsibility in creating inclusive and sustainable change, "compassion" or care is the main foundation in carrying out this profession both in the scientific aspect and service in society. He also hoped that this activity could be a forum to broaden insights, strengthen collaboration, and increase enthusiasm in contributing to global health and progress, especially in the field of veterinary medicine. The inauguration was marked by the wearing of stethoscopes and the giving of flowers to animal owners, then confirmed by striking a gong three times.

The activity continued with the signing Implementation of Agreement (IoA) and handover of certificates to the Deputy Chairman of PDHI, the Head of Pecatu Village, and the Head of Animal Health Badung Regency Agriculture and Food Service. The session then concluded with a video presentation of the 2026 WVD celebration. Moving on to the main agenda, namely the Pet Contest, which was divided into two categories, namely cats and dogs. This year, Pet Contest carried the theme "Shining Together: Pet & Owner," the event showcased the collaboration, skills, and harmonious interactions between pets and their owners. Participants were given the opportunity to showcase their pets' unique interactions and abilities.

 

The WVD Peak Day celebration was also enlivened by performances by Teater Vetro and Vetro Voice. Furthermore, the event also featured the Professional Interest (Minpro) booths of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Udayana University, including the Minpro Rothschildi, Turtle Guard, Pet Learning Organization (P-LO), Veterinary Holic (Vetholic), Veterinary Science Club (VSC), and Minpro Suluh, as well as foundations from outside the FKH Unud which participated, such as Owl Tower Bali and Villa Kitty. Toward the end of the event, the winners of Pet Contest were announced, with the following results:

Dog Category:

- 1st place: Little Yuppi (number 04) with a score of 80

- 2nd place: Juno (number 07) with a score of 76.3

- 3rd place: Fuji (number 08) with a score of 74.3

 Cat Category:

- 1st place: Mr. Laoban (number 01) with a score of 70.5

- 2nd place: Chiizu (number 06) with a score of 70.

- 3rd place: Nugget (number 03) with a score of 69.8.

 The favorite Winner title was awarded to Zowie with a total of 132 likes. The event then continued with the announcement of the winner of the Best Minpro 2026, which was won by Minpro Satwa Liar Rothschildi, who successfully defended its title.

Overall, the event went very well and was met with enthusiasm from the participants. Through the implementation of this event, it is hoped that it will continue to be held sustainably and that collaborations with external parties will be established, so that the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Udayana University can continue to contribute in accordance with its vision of an impactful campus.
