Inviting Practitioners From BRIN, FKH UNUD Held Practitioner Public Lecture About Trypanosomes

The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FVM) Udayana University held a guest lecture in the Practitioner Teaching Program, Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) series, 19 September 2023 at the Meeting Room on the 1st floor of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Building, Udayana University. The public lecture was attended by the Dean, Vice Deans, Study Program Coordinators, Head of the Collaboration of FVM Unud, Veterinary Parasitology Laboratory Lecturers and 50 students of the Veterinary Education Profession. Present as resource person was April H. Wardhana, S.K.H., M.Sc., Ph.D from the Veterinary Research and Development Center, National Research and Innovation Agency (NRIA).

 


The public lecture activities began with remarks from the Dean of FVM, Prof. Dr. drh. I Nyoman Suartha, M.Si. Prof. Suartha said that this public lecture was a very good thing for students. Because by hearing material directly from experts in their fields, students are able to gain knowledge directly from the field. Followed by presentation of material by Dr. April. Dr. April explained about Trypanosoma Evansi: Epidemiology, Zoonotic Potential, Control and Development of Detection Tools. Trypanosoma is a zoonotic disease, namely a disease that is transmitted from humans to animals and vice versa. Trypanosoma is caused by the Protozoa Trypanosoma Evansi which is spread by the Tabanus type fly. Trypanosoma causes Surra disease which generally attacks livestock such as cattle or horses, but can be transmitted to humans if there is human contact.

 


This public lecture activity in the Teaching Practitioner series is one of FVM's programs to provide field experience to students. Dr. April as a practitioner, provides experience in handling Surra in East Nusa Tenggara Province. It is hoped that this teaching practitioner activity will be able to increase student competence not only from experience in the classroom but also outside the classroom.
