Inauguration of New Members of Minpro Rothschildi, A First Step in Member Regeneration
As an annual agenda, the Wildlife Professional Interest Group Rothschildi (Minpro Rothschildi) of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Udayana University (FKH Unud), organized an inauguration program for new members. The event was held over three days, from Friday to Sunday, January 23-25, 2026, at West Bali National Park (Taman Nasional Bali Barat/TNBB). The agenda was attended by representatives of TNBB, the Advisor of Minpro Rothschildi, the Vice Chairperson of the Student Executive Board of FKH Unud, the Chairperson of Minpro Rothschildi, the Chairperson of the 2026 Rothschildi Inauguration Committee, and members of the steering committee.
This year, the inauguration of new members of Minpro Rothschildi carried the theme “Across the Wild Horizon, Stepping Onto a New Path with Rothschildi” and was attended by 29 new members. The activity aimed to support member regeneration and to provide a deeper introduction to the scope of the wildlife veterinarian profession. The agenda was officially opened symbolically by the Advisor of Minpro Rothschildi, drh. Putu Suandhika, M.Sc.
The activity then continued with a presentation delivered by the Head of the National Park Management Section (SPTN) Region I, Isai Yusidarta, S.T., M.Sc., and the Forest Ecosystem Controller, I Gede Mahendra Yasa Saputra, S.Pi., entitled “Conservation Efforts in West Bali National Park.” The material discussed conservation objectives and the main conservation activities, including the protection of life-supporting systems, sustainable utilization of biological natural resources and their ecosystems, as well as the preservation of plant and wildlife diversity along with their ecosystems. In addition, conservation methods were explained, namely in situ and ex situ conservation. In situ conservation refers to efforts to preserve plants and animals within their natural habitats, while ex situ conservation is conducted outside their natural habitats. The material also covered management mandates and the total area of TNBB.
Furthermore, information regarding the buffer zones of TNBB was presented, including Gilimanuk Subdistrict, Melaya Village, Ekasari Village, Blimbingsari Village, Sumberklampok Village, and Pejarakan Village. The presentation was also complemented by discussions on the history of the Bali Starling, conservation efforts and population status of the Bali Starling in TNBB, as well as various threats to its conservation. These materials were delivered in detail to enhance the knowledge of both new and existing members. The activity then continued with an ice-breaking session and poster presentations by participants on the seven clusters within Minpro Rothschildi, namely omnivores, carnivores, herbivores, ornithology, herpetology, aquatic, and primates.
The second day began with a morning exercise session, followed by trekking activities around the TNBB area, as well as rest, prayer, and communal meals. The series of activities then proceeded with a bonding night, where artistic performances by participants added to the liveliness and fostered a warm sense of togetherness. As the closing of the entire series of activities, the third day was filled with the oath-taking ceremony for new members, followed by a cooking competition and a communal breakfast. The event concluded with the distribution of cluster awards, consisting of:
- Best Scientific Poster: Ornithology
- Best Chant: Carnivores
- Best Art Performance: Herbivores
- Calmest Cluster: Aquatic
- Cutest Cluster: Primates
- Most Creative Cluster: Herpetology
- Favorite Cluster: Omnivores
Overall, the entire series of activities ran smoothly and in a conducive manner without any significant obstacles. Through this activity, it is expected that new members will gain a deeper understanding of the wildlife veterinarian profession and develop a better comprehension of wildlife studied within each cluster of Minpro Rothschildi.
