Inaugural Senate Meeting, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Udayana University Establishes New Senate Board for 2026–2028

Denpasar – The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FVM) of Universitas Udayana held its inaugural senate meeting on Friday (April 17, 2026), with the main agenda of electing the Senate Chair for the 2026–2028 period. The meeting was opened by the Dean of FVM Udayana and continued by the senior senate leader, Prof. Dr. drh. Tjok Gde Oka Pemayun, MS., marking the beginning of the new senate administration.

During the election process, although no official technical guidelines were yet available, the mechanism was carried out through deliberation and consensus based on nominations from senate members. Two senate members, Prof. Dr. drh. Hamong Suharsono, M.Kes. and Prof. Dr. drh. I Ketut Puja, M.Kes., nominated I Nyoman Suarsana as a candidate for Senate Chair, considering his capacity and experience.

Through mutual agreement, Prof. Dr. drh. I Nyoman Suarsana, M.Si. was officially appointed as the Chair of the FVM Udayana Senate for the 2026–2028 period. The meeting was then led by the newly elected chair, who subsequently appointed drh.Putu Devi Jayanti,S.KH.M.Sc. as Secretary of the Senate in accordance with existing regulations.

In his remarks, Prof. Suarsana outlined plans to restructure the senate organization, including revising the commission structure, which previously consisted of four commissions, into a new format currently being developed. He also revealed that three main frameworks would be established to strengthen the senate’s role moving forward. The appointment of commission chairs will be carried out by the Senate Chair, while each commission chair will select their respective secretaries.

The meeting also discussed funding aspects for senate activities. Previously, funding proposals were submitted to the Rector with limited allocation for meetings. Moving forward, the University Senate Chair is expected to re-propose funding support to ensure more optimal implementation of senate programs.

During the discussion session, it was highlighted that the position of the FVM Udayana Senate Chair also holds a strategic role at the national level. With the appointment of Prof. Suarsana, he will automatically serve as Chair of the Indonesian Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Senate Forum. This forum holds regular meetings twice a year, which are planned to take place in Bali.

The inaugural senate meeting was closed by the Dean of FVM Udayana, expressing hope that the new board will strengthen the senate’s role in supporting academic governance and institutional development. The official decree for the 2026–2028 senate board will be issued soon as the basis for future duties.
