FVM Unud Guest Lecture and JMT Discuss Communication Competencies and Strengthening Veterinary Pharmacy Learning
Denpasar, September 18, 2026 — The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Udayana University (FVM Unud) held a guest lecture entitled “Communication and Public Speaking” for students of the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) Program undertaking their Hospital Rotation at the Udayana University Teaching Veterinary Hospital (RSHP Unud). Held in the RSHP Seminar Room, the session was attended by DVM students, RSHP Unud management staff, and veterinary practitioners from RSHP.
The guest lecture featured drh. Anggara Fajri Prasafitra, M.Ikom., a veterinary practitioner as well as a communication and personality trainer. The session was conducted as a sharing session, providing students with an opportunity to discuss and exchange experiences on applying communication skills in the veterinary profession.
During the session, students gained an understanding of the importance of communication and public speaking skills as supporting competencies for veterinary professionals. Clinical competence needs to be complemented by the ability to convey information clearly, effectively, and in a manner that is easy for clients and other parties involved in veterinary services to understand.
Communication skills are also essential throughout various stages of veterinary care, from communicating examination results and explaining a patient's condition to providing education on animal health and delivering treatment recommendations to animal owners. These skills form an important part of professional interactions between veterinarians and clients in veterinary practice.
Through this activity, DVM students are expected to gain a better understanding of how communication and public speaking skills can be applied in professional settings, both during clinical practice and when interacting with the community.
On the same day, the regular Jumat Minum Teh (JMT) meeting at the Laboratory of Pharmacology and Veterinary Pharmacy, FVM Unud, discussed several agendas related to student learning and preparations for academic activities.
One of the main topics focused on improving the competencies of DVM students in the Pharmacy Block through the addition of pre-test and post-test assessments, as well as additional examinations conducted both online and offline. These assessments are intended to provide students with opportunities to practice answering questions using the Computer-Based Test (CBT) format applied in the veterinary competency examination.
The regular meeting also addressed preparations for research activities and academic supervision for undergraduate Veterinary Medicine students who choose to conduct their research at the Laboratory of Pharmacology and Veterinary Pharmacy. The allocation of supervisor quotas was one of the key points discussed, considering the number of students interested in conducting research at the laboratory. The quota arrangement is intended to ensure that the supervision process can be carried out effectively and in accordance with the supervisors’ capacity.
As part of the preparations for teaching activities, the meeting continued with preparations of the equipment and materials required for Veterinary Pharmacology 1 laboratory sessions.
The series of activities supports the learning process and the development of student competencies through of academic learning, assessment practice, clinical experience, and research activities. This is in line with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education, particularly in supporting learning that is relevant to professional competency needs.
Meanwhile, strengthening communication skills in veterinary services is also relevant to SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being, particularly through the delivery of information and education on animal health to owners as part of veterinary care.
