Calling All Small Animal Veterinarian Around The World: The 2nd International Veterinary Scientific Conference on Small Animals
The 2nd International Small Animal Veterinary Scientific Conference (KIVIHK-2), organized by the Indonesian Association of Small Animal Veterinary Practitioners (ADHPHKI) under the appointment of the Central Board of the Indonesian Veterinary Medical Association (PB PDHI), is a conference for experts in the field of veterinary focusing on the care and health of small animals such as dogs, cats, and other pets. This conference typically includes various sessions of scientific presentations, workshops, and panel discussions on the development of medical science, technology, treatment methods, and clinical cases related to small animals.
This year, KIVIHK-2 adopted the theme of “Pain Management” as the main topic throughout the conference. This initiative is supported by the collaborative between the KIVIHK-2 organizers and the International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management (IVAPM). The chair of the KIVIHK-2 organizing committee, drh. Ivan Satriawan, stated that IVAPM aims to raise awareness among veterinary professionals around the world about the importance of pain management in the survival and well-being of patients.
KIVIHK-2 was held at the Bali Sunset Road Convention Center. The conference was attended by small animal veterinary practitioners from the Southeast Asian region and academics in the field of veterinary medicine. The KIVIHK-2 event series consisted of three main agendas, that is Pre-Conference, Main Conference, and Post-Conference. The Pre-Conference was held from August 9-11, 2024, with the topic “Neurosurgery” conducted in the form of a workshop. Interestingly, this workshop was the first of its kind in Indonesia and received full support from BlueSAO, an orthopedic company based in China. The event continued with the Main from August 11-13, 2024.
The main conference of KIVIHK-2 featured nine intellectual experts as speakers, including Tamara Grubb, DVM, PhD, DACVAA; Emmanuella Sogebi DVM, PhD, FCVSN; Danielle Anderson, BScH, DVM, CCRP, cVMA; Hannah Capon, MA, Vet MB, MRCVS; Dr. Chaiyot Tanrattana, DVM, MSc, DASVCD, DTBVN; Dr. Rungrote Osathanon, DVM, MSc, DASVCD, DTBVM; drh. Lina Susanti, MS, PhD; drh. I Putu Gede Yudhi A., M.SI; and drh. Listriani Wistawan. Some of the topics presented at the conference included “Pain Management in Infectious Disease: Parvo-Lepto”, “Pain Management in Oncology”, “Practical Approach on Bacterial Skin Infection: Superficial Pyoderma vs. Deep Pyoderma in the Era of Antimicrobial Resistance”, and other interesting topics that can be found on Instagram @adhphki.
The final series of events, Post-Conference, took place over two days with different topics. The first topic, “Pain Management”, was held on August 14, 2024, with direct support from IVAPM, aiming to align views on the importance of pain management. The last topic, “Dentistry”, was conducted from August 14-15, 2024.
On of 25th Wave Veterinary Co-assistant students at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Udayana University, I Gusti Ngurah Jagad Anom Ksatriya, shared his experience after participating KIVIHK-2 event. “In this event, i along with 10 other students from the Veterinary Medical Education Program (PPDH), served as volunteers responsible for preparing tools and materials used in the workshops. This activity was beneficial for us as PPDH students, as we had the opportunity to meet colleagues not only from Bali but from across Indonesia and abroad. additionally, and we gained new insights into veterinary medicine from other highly experienced veterinarians.”
“KIVIHK-2 was supported for small animals, making this event a platform for exchange of information between small animal veterinary practitioners and providers of diagnostic tools and solutions. In terms of educational content, KIVIHK-2 also highlighted a theme that plays a crucial role in patient recovery and well-being.
